Voice Dialogue, God and Guides

Dear Hal,
Long time, no see. I hope
you and Sidra are well.
I have one short question.
After having worked with your method for years I seem now to have
arrived at a point where "God" and "spiritual guides"
no longer exist, because they were, presumably, projections/disowned
selves which I have owned/reclaimed/integrated. There does not
seem to be any authority outside of myself anymore. The last step
in this (gradual) development was assisted,supported, and clarified
by the method ("Metamorphosis", an offshoot of reflexology)
and writings of Robert St. John. Interestingly, this development
also seems to have completely canceled out/destroyed the long-standing
negative bonding pattern between my partner and myself. Quite
amazing.
Does my experience parallel
that of other Voice Dialogue practitioners? I would be very grateful
for an answer.

Dear (Name Withheld by Request) — There
is in the universe an intelligence an intelligence at work. This
intelligence manifests itself in the universe itself in a variety
of different ways and this expression of intelligence has been,
and continues to be expressed by many people in the fields of
astronomy and physics and many other sciences. This principle
in part has to do with the organizational ability of energy/matter
as it expresses itself in so many areas of life.
This intelligence also expresses itself through
us human beings. It can be seen in many different areas of our
lives but most specifically it manifests on three different levels
of our work. The first is the dream process. There is a certain
point in our transformational process where our dreams begin to
organize in a meaningful way. Anyone who deals with this kind
of ignition of the unconscious cannot helped but be amazed at
this organizational ability of the dream process as it moves systematically
and relentlessly into the many corners of our lives. The dream
process most certainly is an expression of the “music of
the spheres” once it has ignited in a particular way and
this organizational ability is becomes available to us.
Secondly there is our work with the Psychology
of Selves and more specifically with our understanding of bonding
patterns. The intelligence of the universe as it manifests in
relationship has provided us with a foolproof system for integrating
unconscious contents. In relationship our primary self system
draws us to people who carry our disowned selves. We are attracted
and/ or repelled and the way these bonding patterns manifest in
each of us, with the utmost grace and mathematical predictability,
is truly awesome to behold. There are laws that govern these bonding
patterns. The people we judge carry our disown selves since the
judgments come from our primary self system.
All of this leads ultimately to a new kind of
non-hierarchical partnering relationships that gradually replace
the older forms of relationship as we have known it. In this kind
of relationship the the surrender is to the process of the relationship,
not to the person, and this surrender has very significant ramifications
for each of our processes. Part of this kind of relationship is
that the surrender is not just to the relationship but also to
the intelligence of the universe that is manifesting through us
individually and through the relationship as a gestalt in and
of itself. The Partnering Relationship becomes a kind of alchemical
vessel for the two people to come together in very new and very
different ways.
The Aware Ego process must hold all this together.
It holds the spiritual side of our nature and that is quite real.
The problem for too may people who are identified with spirituality
is that they have never done serious psycho-dynamic work and so
they confuse rules with experience and in general become quite
unbalanced. The Aware Ego must also hold all of the energy systems
that are connected to our earthly existence — our instinctual
energies, our physical body and its reality and a wide range of
feeling/emotional/psychological states that are necessary for
our survival and relationship capabilities.
In the Aware Ego I am surrendered to the teaching
of relationship and my interpersonal realities and I am also surrendered
to the intelligence of the universe. Let us say that I have a
deep spiritual/religious experience. This intelligence manifests
as a profound experience of divinity in whatever form that takes.
I am in religious ecstasy for two days. When I come out of this
I am still in a body and my wife may be telling me to take out
the garbage and my children are screaming for my attention. It
is the Aware Ego process that allows us to embrace the spirituality
in whatever form it takes and to also embrace the wide range of
earth energies.
You have separated from many projections and
many disowned selves and now you don’t experience any outside
authority any longer. This is a common result of the work. For
me however this would be just where you are in your process. The
Intelligence of the Universe is a reality but as you move into
an appreciation of this energy it will not be in the old form
where we are essentially in a son/daughter bonding pattern to
the rules of what we call God. Look at your dreams as they emerge
and watch the patterning. Listen to the client talk about her
new boyfriend, complaining that she has again pulled in the same
kind of irresponsible man. Feel the profound way that relationship
works — the grace and ease of bonding patterns and their
relationship to gravity. What a remarkable design for relationship
this energy has provided for us if only we can understand and
decode the laws that govern our interactions.
Congratulations on all that you have done. I
can assure you that God is not dead. It is simply going through
a transformational process within you and will emerge again in
an entirely new light.
